This section contains information about the WPC, ranging from the concept of parks congresses with a historical overview of previous congresses, to logistical information such as details of the congress location, dates, organizers, and a brief description of the WCPA
Outputs of the Congress
This section contains a breakdown of the programme per day, details of the workshops, side events and short courses.  It also provides information about the exhibition, the field trips and pre / post congress tours.
This section basically tells the reader who can participate in the Vth IUCN World Parks Congress and how to participate - including details of the registration process and the different levels of involvement in the WPC.  Further information is also provided on travel and accommodation as well as some useful background information on South Africa, the host country.
This is where new documents are posted and news disseminated.  It will eventually host the daily coverage of the congress events and gives useful updates in the build up to the WPC.  It includes links to the PARKS newsletter and a section for the Media, covering press releases, media briefs and details of media accreditation

Registration

The World Parks Congress is proving to be extremely popular and registration is filling fast!

Delegate numbers have been set by agreement with South Africa at 2,500 so that logistical and programmatical arrangements remain manageable. Once the Congress is full subscribed, registration will have to be closed and a place may not be available even if you have been invited.

Please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

If you have nominated before 30 June 2003 you will be sent an invitation.

*Registration fee includes airport transfer (see Hotel Reservation form), Opening Ceremony and Reception, access to full Congress programme (plenaries, symposia, workshops), documentation, access to Congress Exhibition, Closing Function, Congress transport from designated hotels to ICC-International Conference Centre and official Social Events, simultaneous translation of plenaries and workshops, other special events, Congress bag.

**Field Trips include 2-day excursion (1 night), return transportation, expert guides and commentary, 1 breakfast (15 Sept), 2 lunches, 1 dinner (15 Sept), snacks on the coach, shared double accommodation, entry fees. Short Courses include instruction by international and local experts, facilities and two lunches.

Field Trips
For all field trips, places are double accommodation (2 beds). If no name is shown in the "share with" box on the Congress registration form, organizers will pair participants independently. Field trips will be confirmed by Global Conferences Africa separately.

Deadline for field trip registration: 31 May. After this date, space on an availability basis only.

NOTE: Field trip participants will not be able to check out of their hotel in Durban for the single night of 14 September when they are in the field. Each participant will be responsible for the cost of the room for that night. more on field trips

Payment
Payment of registration fees will be accepted, in US dollars only, by one of the following methods:
  • Credit Card (VISA, MasterCard only): Payment by credit card will appear on your account statement under the name 'JPdL Conventions'.
  • Bank Draft to the order of 'JPdL - WPC 2003'
  • Bank Transfer, including an additional $15 US bank administration fee (instructions below)

Confirmation

All pre-registered delegates will receive an official letter to confirm registration status and receipt of payment, by e-mail or fax/post. This letter will also serve as an official receipt for fees paid.

Cancellation

Cancellations must be received in writing (e-mail/fax/letter) by the WPC 2003 Registration Office - JPdL (address below) no later than 30 June, 2003. Reimbursements of fees paid, less an administrative fee of $50 USD, will be made after the close of the Congress. There will be no refund for cancellations received after June 30, 2003.

Replacement

Registration is by personal invitation only. In exceptional circumstances, registered delegates unable to attend may nominate an alternate person to replace them by notifying in writing (e-mail/fax/letter) the WPC 2003 Registration Office - JPdL (address below). Such notification is subject to approval by the Congress organizers and must state the name of the invited participant and the nominee.
