Creating a common language for protected areas
IUCN paves the way for a common understanding of the world’s natural gems

From 7 to 11 May 2007 over 100 experts from about 40 countries gathered in Almería, Spain, to improve the internationally-recognized IUCN Categories System, which since 1994 has created a “common language” for the world’s protected areas

Del 7 al 11 de mayo de 2007, más de 100 expertos de 40 países se reunieron en Almería, España, para mejorar el internacionalmente reconocido Sistema de Categorías de la UICN, que, desde 1994, ha creado un “lenguaje común” para las áreas protegidas del mundo.

On Friday September 15, 2006, Austria’s Hohe Tauern National Park was internationally certified within the protected area management category system of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), which was developed by its World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA).  The largest of the national parks in the Alps, located in southern Austria, has received IUCN Category II status.  This category recognizes national parks which are effectively managed for recreation and the protection of ecosystems.
