Non
Material Values of Protected Areas |
The
'Full Value of Parks' is the first comprehensive
look at the values associated with parks and
other kinds of protected area. The economic
benefits of protected areas are undeniably
important, yet the reasons why people care
deeply about them usually have little or nothing
to do with money. Instead, people value parks
as settings of breathtaking beauty, as venues
of scientific inquiry, as destinations for
much-needed recreation, as places of spiritual
self-discovery, even as places where one can
go to heal a wounded psyche. Because these
reasons are intangible, however, they also
are hard to analyze. Thus there has never
been a review of the full range of benefits
and values of protected areas. This book fills
that gap. more...

The Non-Material
Values of the Machu Picchu World Heritage
Site: from Acknowledgement to Action
Recent progress in solving some of the
environmental problems plaguing this world
famous World Heritage Site has not helped
to resolve problems associated with the non-material
values of the site. A broader integrated
management perspective is required to treat
both the natural and cultural values of the
area as part of a conceptual whole.

Sustainable
Tourism in Protected Areas: Guidelines for
Planning and Management
These guidelines aim to build an understanding
of protected area tourism, and its management.
They provide a theoretical structure, but
are also intended to help managers in practical
ways. The underlying aim is to ensure that
tourism contributes to the purposes of protected
areas and does not undermine them.
