Authority
Files for Habitats, Threats, Conservation Actions and
Utilization of Species
As developed for use by the IUCN Red List
of Threatened Species and the Species Information Service
(SIS)
Following are links
to four Authority Files with the standard categories to be used
when documenting:
- the major habitats a taxon occurs in;
- the major threats to the taxon (past, present and future);
- what conservation actions are in place or are needed for the taxon;
and
- if the species is utilized locally, nationally or internationally.
More detailed descriptions of the terms are being developed, and
a draft version of these is included in the Habitats and Conservation
Actions Authority Files. The Authority Files are periodically
reviewed and updated based on users comments, hence a numbering
system has been adopted to allow users to check if they are using
the most current version. Users must take careful note of the comments at the top of each
file, in particular, they should note that there is a major difference
in how the hierarchy for the habitat classification operates compared
to the classifications for the threats and conservation measures.
