A series highlighting the members of the IUCN/SSC Specialist Groups

The IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) has initiated a web-based series profiling some of its 120 Specialist Groups, their members and some of the species they work on. SSC Specialist Group members provide a wide range of expertise to IUCN - The World Conservation Union, gathering information and assessing an increasing number of animal and plant species across the planet. All are committed to reversing the extinction crisis by working to save a vast range of species (and their habitats). The energy, enthusiasm, and commitment shown by the Groups is remarkable but much goes unreported and unrecognised. Most members have full-time jobs and the work carried out on behalf of the Specialist Groups is in their "spare" time. This series aims to raise the profile of these Groups that are the driving force of SSC, and the important and fascinating work they carry out globally.
