Figure 4: Recorded numbers of T. tajacu and T. pecari hides exported from South America

during the period 1946 to 1990 (incl.). Data are unavailable from Bolivia (a major exporting country) and Paraguay prior to the inclusion of both species on Appendix II of CITES in 1987. CITES data for 1990 from both Bolivia and Peru was unavailable when the figure was prepared in August 1992. The (relatively) small numbers of peccary hides exported from Ecuador in 1980 (4,000), 1981 (2,000) and 1982 (2,000), are also omitted as these records (estimates) do not distinguish species. The only available export record from Paraguay (i.e. 7,100 T. tajacu hides exported in 1988) is also omitted.
