. The cycad
community has organised an international conference every three years
since 1987, starting in Nice, France (1987), and followed by meetings
in other places of interest to cycad enthusiasts.
Click here The conferences have been held under the auspices of the IUCN/SSC Cycad Specialist Group and have been the main forum where CSG members have been able to meet. They have also been the venues for formal CSG meetings. The CSG has gradually taken over more responsibility for the conferences to provide continuity and to ensure that they focus on CSG needs. The last conference was held in Xalapa, Mexico, in January 2005 under the leadership of CSG member Dr. Andrew Vovides. The proceedings of this conference are currently in press. The next conference will be held in Panama in 2008 under the leadership of Dr. Alberto Taylor who is also a member of the CSG. Ad hoc meetings of the CSG have also been arranged to deal with specific issues. For example, the Montgomery Botanical Center in Miami, Florida, USA, hosted a workshop of mostly CSG members in 2002 to deal with problems and concepts in cycad classification.
