. The Invasive Pests Subgroup was created in June 2005 to address the emerging threat to wild cycad populations from the artificial spread of insect pests and pathogens of cycads. The subgroup is dedicated to providing factual information on the spread and control of invasive pests that threaten wild cycad populations and/or ex-situ cycad collections of conservation importance. Below is the Invasive Pests Subgroup report submitted to the CSG chair for the meeting held in January 2008 during the 8th International Conference on Cycad Biology (CYCAD 2008) held in Panama City, Panama. At present, the most serious invasive pest of cycads worldwide is the cycad aulacaspis scale (CAS), Aulacaspis yasumatsui Takagi. In September 2005, the Subgroup on Invasive Pests released a report and an accompanying pest alert notification on CAS. Both documents were updated in January 2006, and the most recent versions can be downloaded using the following links:

In January 2006, William Tang and Rolf Oberprieler graciously assembled a supplementary pest alert document for five additional invasive insect pests of cycads that are of special concern worldwide. This document can be downloaded by clicking the link below: ALERT: NEW INVASIVE PEST OF CYCADS In June 2007, a new invasive pest of cycads was reported from Miami-Dade County, Florida.
