. The Cycad Specialist Group collaborates with a variety of other specialist groups. Most notable are the interactions with the disciplinary specialist groups, including the following: Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) - http://www.issg.org
The dramatic spread of the cycad aulacaspis scale
has highlighted the devastating effect that invasive pests can have on
species and ecosystems. The CSG
Invasive Pests Subgroup is working with the ISSG to circulate
information on this pest and develop ways to limit further spread.

Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG) - http://www.cbsg.org The small population size of many cycad species makes it imperative to develop effective plans to manage in-situ and ex-situ populations of cycads. The CSG is working with the CBSG to undertake population and habitat viability analyses (PHVA) workshops for select cycad species. The idea is to start with two Critically Endangered species in South Africa. A PHVA workshop has been completed for Encephalartos latifrons; below is the report produced following this workshop: (Note: This file may not open properly in older versions of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. Re-introduction Specialist Group (RSG) - http://www.iucnsscrsg.org Re-introducing plants and animals to areas where they have been locally extirpated is the primary goal of this specialist group. The CSG works with the RSG to develop scientifically rigorous methods and protocols for re-establishing or re-invigorating cycad populations that have become extinct or critically threatened. Sustainable Use Specialist Group (SUSG) - http://www.iucn.org/themes/ssc/susg/ The SUSG was developed to implement the IUCN Sustainable Use Initiative, an interdisciplinary initiative founded in 1995 to enhance and share knowledge of the social and biological factors affecting the sustainable use of wild renewable resources. The CSG Sustainable Use Nurseries Subgroup shares information on local cycad nurseries with the SUSG and uses information provided by the SUSG to encourage the development of new nurseries and improve the sustainability of others.
