| IUCN Red List of Threatened Species |
The 2006 update of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (TM) was launched in May this year. The next update of the IUCN Red List will be in the first quarter of 2007.
In 2006, the number of known threatened species surpassed 16,119. The ranks of those facing extinction were joined by familiar species like the polar bear, hippopotamus and desert gazelles; together with ocean sharks, freshwater fish and Mediterranean flowers. Positive action has helped the white-tailed eagle and offers a glimmer of hope to Indian vultures. Search the database Read the media package
