Legal Aspects of Forest Projects under the Clean Development Mechanism in Viet Nam
– Opportunities and Challenges
This study is a part of a UNEP funded global initiative of the IUCN Global Programme on forest Conservation “IUCN Capacity Building Programme for Forest Project Activities under the Clean Development Mechanism” with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Ministry of Industry being as IUCN main partners. The draft Report reviews and provides recommendations on related institutional and legal aspects as well as national available capacities in order to build a more favorable environment for development and implementation of CDM forest projects in Viet Nam.
Climate
Change Information On-Line
IUCN, with partners WWF and UNEP, has created the online Climate,
Forests and People Information Desk to inform approaches
to environmentally sound and socially equitable afforestation and
reforestation activities in developing countries which respond to
the market for afforestation and reforestation projects created
through the Kyoto Protocol. The website highlights lessons from
past and current examples of land use activities, including carbon
sequestration projects and non-carbon forest projects.
Carbon, Forests and People
This publication provides an overview of the opportunities and challenges
for carbon sequestration activities in the forestry and agricultural
sectors of both industrialized and developing countries. It outlines
a set of strategies and approaches seeking to ensure that forest
and other land-use climate change mitigation measures deliver sustainable
development benefits in an equitable and cost-effective manner.

Capacity Building for Climate Change Negotiators
In collaboration with UNEP and FAO, IUCN has been supporting a process
focused on the preparation of regional negotiators towards the Conference
of the Parties to the UNFCCC. Within this context, eight meetings
have been carried out since June 2001 in order to support the generation
of a suitable and neutral platform for analysis and discussion about
technical and political issues regarding modalities for forest activities
under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. The
last Latin American meeting following this process was held in Mexico
from the 29th to the 30th of October 2003. Its goal was to support
the coordination of views among the regional countries in preparation
for UNFCCC COP-9 and share the outcomes with other African and Asian
representatives in a pre COP-9 meeting.
Bulletin "Climas"
As a mean to increase information availability for regional negotiators
with regard to the new challenges in forest activities under the
Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol, the Forest Conservation
Programme at the South American Regional Office (SUR) produces the
Electronic Bulletin on Forests and Climatic Change (biannually).
Articles from regional negotiators and regional and international
experts are available
