 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and 3rd Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 3)
This meeting comes at a crucial time for the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, when the level of awareness of climate change has never been so high, and when the international community is now seriously expected to take greater commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help the poor and vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change. IUCN stresses the urgent need to reach an agreement by 2009 to ensure a continuity after the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012. The Union is providing active support to the COP and the CMP, addressing the linkages between climate change, biodiversity and equity challenges. |

Women environment ministers and leaders have come together in a unique event to ensure that gender issues are prominent in climate policy and action. The Network of Women Ministers and Leaders for Environment, created in 2002, was meeting during the UN Climate Changge Conference in Bali, Indonesia.

Strengthen forest governance to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Speaking Tuesday morning to the UN Climate Conference Convention’s Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) in Bali, Indonesia, IUCN joined 25 countries in calling for early action to reduce emissions from deforestation and to protect tropical forests.
