13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and 3rd Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 3)

This meeting comes at a crucial time for the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, when the level of awareness of climate change has never been so high, and when the international community is now seriously expected to take greater commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help the poor and vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change. IUCN stresses the urgent need to reach an agreement by 2009 to ensure a continuity after the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012. The Union is providing active support to the COP and the CMP, addressing the linkages between climate change, biodiversity and equity challenges.
