Community Conserved Areas

 Worldwide database of CCAs

During the regional CCA reviews, detailed information was generated concerning location, natural resources, cultural values, etc.of individual CCAs present in the regions. There are, as of now, 140 entries in this database. However, due to limitations in time and funds, the information in only some of these entries can be considered endowed with Prior Informed Consent (PIC) for wide access from the concerned communities.
Therefore, only such CCAs are listed here for which explicit consent was given, or whose information was already available in published literature elsewhere.
As the wordwide assessment of CCAs progresses, a more standarized process for PIC will be developed and further visits/contacts to the concerned communities will allow us to expand this database.
