At the 3rd IUCN World Conservation Congress, her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, Honorary President of BirdLife International, awarded the global 2004 Reuters-IUCN Media Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting to Mr Tom Knudson of the United States. He received the award for his article "State of Denial", published in US newspaper The Sacramento Bee.

During the Awards Ceremony held in Washington DC, Her Majesty Queen Noor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan awarded the 2002 Reuters-IUCN Global Media Award for excellence in environmental journalism to James Meek of The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom. |

Her Majesty Queen Noor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan awarded the 2001 Reuters-IUCN Global Media Award for excellence in environmental journalism to Dee Raymer, of the Ecoforum magazine in Kenya, at a ceremony held in Berlin December 5, 2001. |

In 2000, Her Majesty Queen Noor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan awarded the 2000 Reuters-IUCN Global Media Award for excellence in environmental journalism to Alanna Mitchell of The Globe and Mail newspaper in Canada.
Mitchell received the award for her article "From the Vanishing Forests of Madagascar" - a comprehensive look at the growing number of extinct species on this island nation off the East Coast of Africa, which is often referred to as "the land of living fossils." |

On November 20, 1999, Queen Noor of Jordan presented the first Reuters-IUCN Media Environmental Journalism Award to U.S. reporter Michael Pollan for an article he wrote for the New York Times Magazine on genetically modified food. |

The Reuters-IUCN Media Awards were launched 3 November 1998 at Fontainebleau, France, during celebrations to mark IUCN’s 50th anniversary. The Awards were launched to encourage better media coverage of the environment and promote excellence in environmental reporting world-wide. |
