Environmental Media Awards 2001

Kenyan journalist awarded global environmental journalism prize

This worldwide contest in environmental journalism is presented jointly by Reuters and IUCN to:

  • Recognise excellence in professional reporting on environmental and sustainable development issues;
  • Foster a dialogue between journalists and experts to encourage informative reporting based on sound scientific data.
The Reuters - IUCN Environmental Media Awards were launched in November 1998 on the occasion of IUCN's 50th anniversary. In 1999 and 2000 regional Reuters - IUCN Media Awards were presented, culminating in the selection of a global winner by an international jury chaired by H. M. Queen Noor of Jordan, Patron of IUCN.
