Civil society member organisations of IUCN in Pakistan affirm support to Shehri on Kidney Hill issue

Representatives of civil society member organizations; of the Pakistan National Committee of IUCN – The World Conservation Union have affirmed their complete solidarity with “Shehri”, a fellow member; organization of IUCN with reference to its principled stand in the public interest on the attempt to convert the amenity plot known as Kidney Hill Park in Karachi into a housing and commercial scheme.

At a recent meeting of the PNC held in Lahore on 22nd March, 2007, a representative of “Shehri” briefed members on the historical background to the Kidney Hill case and provided details about the present situation.    More

PNC meeting at LahoreMeeting of Pakistan National Committee (PNC) of IUCN members held at Lahore on March 22, 2007. Mr. Javed Jabbar, Chairperson PNC chaired the meeting. The Regional Director IUCN Asia Region, Ms. Aban Marker Kabraji, Country Group Head (Pakistan & Nepal) Ms, Nikhat Sattar and Country Representative IUCN Pakistan Mr. Sohail Malik also attended the meeting. On the occasion, minutes of last PNC meeting held on December 14, 2006 were approved. During the meeting, discussion held on selected major issues, membership dues. Mr. Rizwan Mahmood of WWF made presentation on New Murree Project, while Mr. Shahid Khan made presentation on Indus Earth, a member of IUCN. IUCN civil society members express concerns on proposed development of Islands

The civil society public interest organization members of Pakistan National Committee (PNC) of IUCN in a special meeting held recently in Karachi expressed serious concerns on the proposed development of twin Islands: Bundal and Buddo. The meeting was chaired by the PNC Chairman Mr. Javed Jabbar, who is also Global Vice President of IUCN-The World Conservation Union.    More


PNC Meeting in Karachi (August 09, 2006)

National Roundtable on Fisheries

Speakers called for sustainable fisheries policy at a ‘Roundtable Meting on Fisheries’ organized by Pakistan National Committee (PNC) of IUCN. The meeting was facilitated by PNC Chairman, Mr. Javed Jabbar while representatives of fishermen community, social society representatives, government officials from Balochistan, NWFP and Sindh also attended the meeting.    More

IUCN's Report on Post-Earthquake Environmental Risks and Needs

After its preliminary environmental assessment of the affected areas - through a field mission - immediately following the October 8 earthquake, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) undertook two missions to select districts of NWFP and AJK, in the affected areas, to have a more detailed assessment of environmental risks and needs. The report that follows is based on these field missions: November 19-26 to NWFP and December 4-7, 2005 to AJK.    More


Roundtable Discusses Implications Of Earthquake On People And Ecosystems

A roundtable meeting was held on 28 November, 2005 in Islamabad to discuss the implications of Earthquake on People and Ecosystems. The roundtable was jointly organized by the Pakistan National Committee of IUCN and IUCN Pakistan Programme. The roundtable was attended by 60 participants from all over the country, representing various government departments, NGOs and International Organizations. More


National Consultative Workshop on CITES Law: Background Note

IUCN in collaboration with IUCN Pakistan’s State Member, National Council for Conservation of Wildlife (NCCW) is organizing a national consultative workshop on Saturday, the August 20, 2005 at Margalla Hotel, Islamabad. The purpose of this workshop is to finalize the CITES Law for enactment and notification by the Government of Pakistan. Federal Minister for Environment has kindly consented to be the chief guest on this occasion. More
