Gawadar District Assembly members visit Peshawar
Peshawar May 21-22: In a series of countrywide exposure visit under the auspices of IUCNP's Gwadar Office, district assembly member's of Gwadar paid visit to IUCNP Sarhad Programme Office. The main purpose of the exposure visit was to brief them about IUCN Pakistan initiatives and major achievements for greening district sustainable development visions, in terms of formulating conservation strategies either at national or provincial levels so that they could equip themselves in translating this experience sharing mechanism in Gawadar District Sustainable Development Plan (DSDP) under the thumb of Local Government Ordinance 2001.

Chitral becomes first district in Pakistan to adopt a conservation strategy
Chitral, the northernmost mountainous district of the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, now has the distinction of being the first district in the country to have its own conservation strategy, following its formal approval as an 'integrated development vision' by the District Government.

Workshop on ‘Separate Environmental tribunals for NWFP'
Peshawar, March 30: Participants at IUCN's one day consultative workshop on ‘Separate Environmental Tribunal in NWFP – Options and Issues' discussed and debated the need for a separate environmental tribunal in NWFP, which would be instrumental in dealing with environmental cases specific to the Province. Currently, environmental cases of NWFP are the responsibility of the Environmental Tribunal at Lahore.

One-Day Managers Conference held in Galiat
Abbottabad, March 24: The ERNP sub-project ‘Natural Resource Conservation Project' (NRCP), Galiat arranged a one-day Managers' Conference at Green Gardens, Abbottabad. Around 150 community representatives from Thai, Berote and Boi areas attended the Conference, which continued from 10.30 a.m. till 4.00 p.m in the evening.

Wetlands of Pakistan available online
Thatta, Feb 26: Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, often referred to as the “nature's supermarkets” because of their extensive and rich food webs and biodiversity. Wetlands of Pakistan website was launched at the event took place at Haleji Lake, one of Pakistan’s nineteen Ramsar Wetland Sites of International Importance. The launch was jointly organized by the IUCN Sindh Programme, WWF and Sindh Wildlife department.
