Strategic Country Environmental Assessment

Quetta, May 20: IUCNP Balochistan Programme Office hosted a consultation meeting for the Strategic Country Environmental Assessment. This initiative has been taken up by the World Bank in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Government of Pakistan, Federal and Provincial Environmental Protection Agencies.
The Consulting team of the World Bank presented the proposed measures for improvement of air quality management, water supply and sanitation and improving the effectiveness of implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) system in the country.
Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan and Dr. Badar Ghauri presented their suggestions before a group of experts. This group included Chief Economist of Planning and Development Department, Govt. of Balochistan, representatives of different Government Departments like Balochistan EPA, Public Health Engineering Department and representatives of NGOs.

Raheela Durrani, member of the Balochistan Assembly, also participated in the meeting and apprised the consultants about the issues of water supply, sanitation and air quality.

Munawar Khan Mandokail, former Secretary of Irrigation and Public Health Department of Balochistan, Ch. Zulfiqar, Chief Executive Khushali Associate (member of IUCN) and senior journalists also participated in the meeting. Participants appreciated the team and IUCN for involving them in such an important policy related matter on environment.
