Chitral, May
17-19: A three day training workshop
for press clubs of Chitral and Swat on Reporting
for Environment was organized by MACP-NWFP.
The training was attended by ten senior
journalists from leading news papers of
Swat and Chitral.
On the first day, environment related
issues of Swat and Chitral were identified,
prioritized and selected for further investigation
and reporting by the Working Groups. In
addition, exercises were conducted to
differentiate between news and investigative
news stories.
On the second day, the training participants
visited one of the MACP valleys Golain
in Chitral to practice developing investigative
stories. For this purpose two topics were
given to the working groups Poverty and
Natural Resource Management and Governance
and Natural Resource Management. The visiting
journalists enjoyed local hospitality
offered by the Valley Conservation Committee
(VCC) Golain and received a briefing on
MACP activities from the President Valley
Conservation Committee. They also visited
some of the infrastructure projects assisted
by the MACP and took lunch in Tourist
Hut/Community Hall constructed by the
VCC with financial support from MACP and
its support project.
On the third day, participants developed
and refined news stories based on their
experiences of the visit to Golain. At
the end, certificates were distributed
among the participating Journalists. One
of the outcomes of the workshop was the
formation of Chitral Forum of Environmental
Journalists (CFEJ).
