sustainable development in the country.
Two hundred papers were presented
in the 20 sessions. Main emphasis
was to suggest that;
Environment which is a fundamental
part of development is increasingly
under threat from unsustainable
forms of developments. To achieve
environmental sustainability it
requires managing and protecting
ecosystems, maintaining the diversity
of life in both human managed and
natural systems and protect the
environment from pollution to maintain
the quality of land air and water'.
IUCNP was represented by Mr. Sajjad
Ahmad and Qaswer Abbas from IUCNP
Islamabad Office. An exhibition
of IUCN's work on Environment was
also arranged at the conference
venue. Visitors were charmed with
playing of videos on environment
theme. IUCN's brochure were distributed
among delegates and participating
students.
At the closing ceremony of the
conference on 28th June, Mrs. Sue
Raof, from United Kingd om, in her
key note address appreciated the
IUCN participation in the conference.
Federal Minister for Environment
Maj. (R) Tahir Iqbal, chief guest
of the closing ceremony, visited
IUCNP’s display at the venue
and admired its role as a leading
organization working on Environmental
issues in Pakistan.
