Badin, March 8:
Consultative workshop on finalization of district
vision Badin was held in Badin. EDOs of various
departments and representatives of NGOs, media and
private sector attended the workshop. The draft
of this vision has been developed after extensive
consultative process.
In his opening remarks, the DCO Badin Syed Mumtaz
Ali Shah thanked IUCN Pakistan for assisting District
Government to develop the vision. He said that
Badin District has immense potential for development
and with proper planning and vision, the problems
of district would be addressed.
He urged government and non government organizations
as well as private sector to pool their resources
for the development instead of working in isolation.

Ali Raza Rizvi, Head IUCNP Sindh Programme said that the
vision would provide opportunity to work under framework.
Tahir Qureshi said that with appropriate management of natural
resources poverty could be reduced. Nasir Ali Panhwar of
IUCNP said that with practical and feasible recommendations
the vision for district would contribute significantly to
improve the situation in the district.
Dr. Mirza Arshad Baig spoke on frequent occurrences of natural
disasters and vulnerability of Badin. Later the participants
reviewed the draft vision and presented their recommendations
on various sectors.
Members of IUCNP’s Ecosystem and Livelihood Group
including Catherine Mackenzie, Bhim Adhikari, Nadeem Samnakay,
Seeme Mallick, Safia Shafiq and Dr. Najam Khurshid also
attended the workshop. The proceedings of the workshop were
