Chitral
is the northern most, mountainous district of the North
West Frontier Province (NWFP), which has the distinction
of being the first district in Pakistan to have its own
conservation strategy. Like for strategies at the national
and provincial levels, IUCNP facilitated in formulating
this district conservation strategy. The District Government
of Chitral has formally approved it as its 'integrated development
vision'.
Published by the IUCN, Sarhad Proramme, it comes in two
parts. The first part provides the necessary background
information representing the state of environment and development
for Chitral. The second part consists of the strategy itself.
The work for the development of the strategy as well as
its publication has been supported by the Swiss Agency for
Development and Cooperation (SDC).
A ceremony was held at Chitral on 27th January, 2005 to
launch the 'Chitral Conservation Strategy'. Moulana Abdul
Akbar, local Member of National Assembly was the Chief guest
