IUCN
EARO is located
within the
precincts
of the gardens
at Wasaa on
the outskirts
of Nairobi,
acknowledged
as being among
the finest
in tropical
Africa. Wasaa
is now the
site of the
Wasaa Conservation
Centre which
represents
the culmination
of the work
of Peter Greensmith,
one of East
Africa’s
- great horticulturists. |

Peter
Greensmith was born in England in
1911. In 1943, while serving with
the Royal Navy, he was posted to Kenya
and was fascinated with its diverse
landscapes, so much so, that at the
end of the war he chose to be decommissioned
in Kenya and remained in the country
for the rest of his life. |
