SEVA and LIFE Network report on livestock breed workshop

CEC member P.Vivekanandan of Tamil Nadu shares this report on the “Community Conservation of Local Livestock Breeds & Breed Saviour Award 2011 Ceremony”.
 

SEVA in association with LIFE Network and the National Biodiversity Authority organized a one-day workshop on “Community Conservation of Animal Breeds & Breed Saviour Award 2011 Ceremony”. The workshop was held 10 January 2012. In the morning, 56 livestock keepers/pastoralists, representatives from NGOs and scientists assembled at The Farmers’ Hostel Meeting Hall of TANUVAS in Madhavaram, Chennai.

The event was held with the support of the National Biodiversity Authority, with which SEVA regularly organises the Breed Savior Award and motivates local communities on the importance of conserving domesticated biodiversity.
