IUCN members call for action against rhino poaching in Nepal
Rhino poaching is the most pressing issue facing Nepal's wildlife today. With rhino populations shrunk by about a third since 2000, commission members of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in Nepal submitted a petition to the Environment Conservation Committee of the Nepalese House of Representatives on 12 January 2007 to prompt immediate action in favour of Nepal’s rhinos.

Vietnamese Pond Turtle Mauremys annamensis refound in wild by scientists after 65 years
Efforts to find the Vietnamese pond turtle, Mauremys annamensis, last officially recorded in the wild in 1941, yielded a major success last week when a young female turtle was successfully trapped by biologists in central Vietnam. Although specimens have occasionally been observed in wildlife trade, it had not been seen in the wild by scientists for 65 years. …
