With the sponsorship of Mrs. Wangari Maathaï, Nobel Peace Prize and Ambassador of good will for the Congo basin, the 6th world forum on sustainable development was held in Brazzaville, Congo from October 27th to 30th, 2008 on the topic “Africa-Environment Globalization”.

Several Heads of State took part in the forum (Congo, Gabon, Côte D’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Burundi, Central African Republic). About ten other countries were represented at high level. The forum issued a Declaration known as the Brazzaville declaration on sustainable development and developed an action plan for sustainable development. The main objective of this plan is to support the relevant ongoing initiatives or the planned ones for Africa. The Managing director of IUCN was represented by Prof. Aime Nianogo, Regional director for Central and West Africa.  aime.nianogo@iucn.org  / http://www.fmdd.fr/programme.html
