Business Partnerships Key for Biodiversity

05 May 2011 | News story

The EU Business @ Biodiversity Platform has been recognised in the recently adopted EU Biodiversity Strategy as a key partnership which will support its implementation: “The Commission will further develop the Platform and encourage greater cooperation between businesses in Europe, including SMEs, and links to national and global initiatives”.  The Platform is led by IUCN Europe.

The EU Biodiversity Strategy recognises that achieving the EU and global 2020 biodiversity targets will require the full engagement and commitment of a wide variety of stakeholders. To secure this, a number of key partnerships will be expanded and promoted to support this strategy including the EU Business @ Biodiversity Platform:

  • The Commission has set up the EU Business and Biodiversity Platform, which currentlybrings together businesses from six different sectors (agriculture, extractive industries, finance, food supply, forestry and tourism) to share their experiences and best practices. The Commission will further develop the Platform and encourage greater cooperation between businesses in Europe, including SMEs, and links to national and global initiatives.
