I appreciate the 3rd week staement by Ms. Lu Zhi on TheNew Economy and Biodiversity. In the developing countries for the success of sustainable development initiatives the essential elements are:

1. Optimistic vision.
2. Reliance on indigenous capacity.
3. Selection of appropriate methodology.
4. Synergy between economic and conservation benefits.
5. Effective participation of local communities.
6. Benefits sharing with local communities and other key stakeholders for ownership of the initiative.
7. Sharing and consideration of regional best practices and lessons learned.
