Dr. Gayle Hudgens(#12), made an important comments about the role of conscientization in changing societies and about seizing available solutions and moving forward. I would like to pick up on these two points as I am convinced that sustainable use of natural resources for our economic and social development are only possible when people change...when their understanding of cause and effect changes; when consumption patterns change. Such reorientation of awareness of self and society will only be possible when education for sustainability is fully harnessed as a vehicle for change. Education for sustainability must include the political directorate who hold unique positions from which can influence the "seizing of available solutions and moving forward". One such solution is the active promotion of learning for sustainability.
