JEJU 2012 NATURE OLYMPICS KICK OFF
|
|
2012 is the year of the Olympic Games and this includes nature's Olympics as well. IUCN, the world’s leading environmental organization, opened its 2012 Congress in Jeju, Korea for a ten-day run of events, ground-breaking agreements, new initiatives that will improve the way we manage and protect nature.

IUCN Congress lifts off!

At the Opening Ceremony, delegates were joined by notable figures including South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, human rights advocate Bianca Jagger, leading author and oceanographer Sylvia Earle, Japanese singer/songwriter Iruka and HRH Prince Carl Philip of Sweden amongst other CEOs, and several government ministers and heads of major NGOs and UN agencies. > English

The official opening ceremony of IUCN’s Congress was witnessed by an audience of 4,000 people representing 175 countries. They were treated to a dynamic spectacle of music and dance and addressed by President of the Republic of Korea, Mr Lee Myung-Bak.
