Introducing CNVP, a new Member of IUCN

IUCN has strengthened its network recently by welcoming CNVP (Connecting Natural Values & People Foundation) as its Member. Focusing on building a Greener Economic Environment, CNVP uses evidence-based analysis to improve the sustainable livelihoods of rural communities affected by climate change and environmental challenges.

“As a Member of IUCN, we will have the opportunity to share our knowledge on nature protection and conservation with an established network of colleagues, build new partnerships, and influence global environmental policy,” said Ross Bull, Executive Director of CNVP. “We have significant experience of the EU enlargement process, and look forward to supporting increased regional cooperation as the Balkan countries move closer to EU membership,” he concluded.

CNVP is working with international and national partners and networks in the Balkans, specifically in Albania, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, while being open for cooperation in Turkey and the Black Sea countries.

In order to support sustainable development, but without degrading the environment, CNVP is addressing issues of ecological scarcities, unsafe water, plastic/hazardous waste management and air/noise pollution. Acting as a facilitator that provides advisory services, CNVP strengthens local capacities and builds improved governance through national, cross-border and regional project activities.

Five of CNVP’s current projects are:

  1. Forests for Local Economic Development, the aim of which is to promote improved decentralised decision-making and planning in Albania’s forestry sector;
  2. Communities Communicating Climate Change, in order to strengthen the impact and involvement of civil society in decision-making processes and key reforms that will support the EU accession process in FYR Macedonia;
  3. CSOs Driving Rural Development, which aims to enhance the involvement and impact of rural CSOs in the development of public policies and decision-making processes in Montenegro;
  4. Diber Trails & Tradition (D2T), which will advance sustainable, integrated tourism in the Diber Region of northern Albania; and
  5. Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralised Forestry, the aim of which is to secure products, income and environmental services in Kosovo.
