Sri Lanka became the 10th country in Asia Protected Area Partnership (APAP)

Asia Protected Areas Partnership (APAP) was designed as a key platform to help governments and other stakeholders collaborate for more effective management of protected areas in the region. APAP is supported by IUCN and Government of Japan. Two Sri Lankan Conservation Agencies Joined APAP making Sri Lanka the 10th country to Join the Partnership.

The Forest Department and the Department of Wildlife Conservation, long standing government members of IUCN Sri Lanka National Committee are the two agencies representing Sri Lanka in APAP. The certificates of enrolments of the two Departments were awarded by H.E. the President, Hon. Maithreepala Sirisena at the event: “Sri Lanka Environment Awards” on 17 October, 2016. This event held at the BMICH, Colombo was organized by the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment.  

The Conservator General of Forests and the Director General of Department of Wildlife Conservation accepted the award on behalf of their organizations.  Dr Ananda Mallawatantri, Country Representative of IUCN Sri Lanka represented IUCN at this event. Number of Cabinet Ministers, Hon. Minister of Environment of Japan and the UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative were also presented on stage to witness the occasion.
