Coastal and marine ecosystems are increasingly recognized for their important role as carbon sinks, therefore the need to improve their management and conservation so that they can continue to act as sinks and deposits of greenhouse gases. This meeting aims at gathering scientists, managers and other interested groups to examine current knowledge about these ecosystems in the face of climate change. The conference will also present and discuss the results and future perspectives of Blue Carbon ecosystems as tools for Mitigation and adaptation to climate change and how to promote their conservation and restoration.

The topics that will be addressed are:

1. Climate change in the marine environment and international and national actions to combat it. Review of policy development and Blue Carbon needs.

2. The services provided by coastal ecosystems, their management and ability to sequester carbon.

3. Research on Blue Carbon.

4. Experiences and initiatives of offset projects with carbon markets and presentation of work on conservation and restoration of mangrove swamps, marshes and seagrass beds around the world.

The conference will be held in Spanish and English.
