The 7th International Conference of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE) was held in Accra, Ghana from October 27th to 30th 2008. It brought together delegates from about forty countries of the world (scientists, political decision makers, private sector, African universities and elsewhere, etc).

At the end of the sessions, a recommendation was made to the Governments and the African Union to promote the creation of a Secretariat for the development and the implementation of an African Space agency and its programs. The objective of AARSE is to improve the local capacities in the fields of remote sensing and Geographical Information systems (SIG) for the management of the resources, environmental assessment and studies on global change. jerome.guefack@iucn.org  .
