Drylands cover large parts of the Earth’s surface. Even though often viewed as wastelands, they are essential for the survival of 2 billion people. Protected areas play an important role in preserving these ecosystems in order to secure livelihoods of local people and conserve biodiversity.

Ernesto Enkerlin-Hoeflich, Deputy Chair of WCPA, talks about threats to drylands and how protected areas can help dealing with them.
