Two-Day Media Visit to Tharparkar to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification

IUCN Pakistan in collaboration with Baanhn Beli a member organisation of IUCN organised a two-day visit of Media to Tharparkar which included journalists from a TV channel, newapapers and radio. Thar desert is the largest in South Asia.

The visit was part of the activities of IUCN for celebrating the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought following a press briefing to the media on the eve of June 16, 2011 at IUCN Country Programme Office. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the media with the issues related to the ecosystem of the process of desertification and the problems of the communities of Thar.

During the visit the media team visited various locations of the project Sustainable Land Management Project (SLMP) to Combat Desertification in Pakistan (Phase-I) implemented by Baanhn Beli. The various Natural Resource Management interventions carried out by the project are for drought mitigation and food security in district Tharparkar.
Nadeem Mir Bahar, Lasbella District Coordinator of Balcohistan Partnerships for Sustainable Development Progrmame demonstrated the briquettes to the media, Baanhn Beli members and the community members from Nagarparkar on this occasion.
