27 February 2009 | News story
In a world where each unit of energy is becoming increasingly water intensive, many countries are already facing severe water scarcity. This short IUCN opinion piece explores the links between energy and water systems from an environmental perspective.
The energy industry can learn lessons from natural resource management approaches to value water for all uses to ensure the well does not run dry.Climate change makes effective water management even more important.
The opinion piece was produced to accompany the World Economic Forum’s report Thirsty Energy – Water and Energy in the 21st Century. The links between water and energy is one of the main themes to be explored at the World Water Forum in Istanbul 16-21 March 2009.
