Go4BioDiv India International Youth Forum
The Sundarbans in West Bengal, one of India's most unique marine landscapes and a UNESCO World Heritage site, will play host to Go4BioDiv, an International Youth Forum held in parallele to the Conference of Parties of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD COP), to be hel between the 6th and 19th of October 2012.
Previously held in Germany and Japan, the forum brings together young adults from around the world to engage in biodiversity conservation by providing opportunities to express their opinions, exchange with their peers and engage with global decision makers at CBD COP. The theme of Go4BioDiv India 2012 is Conserving Coastal and Marine Biodiversity for Sustaining Life and Livelihoods.
The Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India, in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India, and with support from UNESCO, IUCN, GIZ and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will jointly host this International Youth Forum. The first part will take place between the 6th and 15th of October on a boat in the Sundarbans enabling the participants to get to know each other closely, learn about marine and global issues from around the world and develop their outputs for COP 11. They will then join COP 11 in Hyderabad, from the 16th to the 19th, during the High-Level Segment of CBD-COP 11 to present their messages to decision-makers and the wider public via a powerful youth declaration, creative performances involving street theatre and a colorful exhibition and various other side-events. The event will be prepared and accompanied by strong virtual exchange through an online platform, creative tasks and extensive press work.
