Trees used in cosmetics industry protected by CITES

Delegates at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) conference decided yesterday to add two trees from South America, which produce aromatic oils that are used in the cosmetics industry, to the list of species whose trade will be regulated by delegates. Palo Santo (Bulnesia sarmiento) and the Brazilian rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) will be included in Appendix II of the Convention, which allows for regulated trade. These measures will come into force in 90 days. …

عمان، الأردن، (الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة) بهدف ضمان الحصول على مشاركات أكبر من قبل الصحفيين والإعلاميين قام الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة بتمديد موعد التقديم لجائزة الإعلام البيئي الاستقصائي لتاريخ 12 أيار 2010، وهي جائزة سيقدمها الاتحاد لأفضل تحقيق استقصائي حول الوضع البيئي في حوض سيل الزرقاء. وسيقوم الاتحاد بتوزيع ثلاثة جوائز مقدمة لأفضل تحقيق استقصائي صحفي وتقرير تلفزيوني وإذاعي وذلك خلال حفل التكريم الذي سينظمه الاتحاد يوم 22 أيار 2010 والذي يعتبر اليوم العالمي للتنوع الحيوي. وينظم الاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة هذه الجائزة بالتعاون مع وزارة البيئة الأردنية من خلال مشروع إعادة تأهيل سيل الزرقاء وبدعم من الوكالة الإسبانية للتعاون الدولي (AECID) ومكتب اليونسكو في عمان. …
