Beyond Copenhagen - Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change

The Countdown 2010 initiative in partnership with UNRIC and the Stagiaires Committee of the European Commission is holding an afternoon event on 21st January 2010, to mark the International Year of Biodiversity in Brussels.
The United Nations has declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity, with the aim to increase public awareness on the topic of biodiversity and the crisis it faces. This conference, aimed at the wider public, will give an introduction to the current crisis of the loss of biodiversity, the link between climate change and biodiversity and how policies address this interaction.
Speakers range from Janos Tisovszky, the Deputy director of UNRIC, who will give a short welcome speech and moderate the event; Olivier Deleuze, Director of UNEP's Brussels Liaison Office, who will introduce the current crisis of biodiversity loss; Luc De Bruyn, Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO) who will talk more about the science and linkages between Climate Change and biodiversity, and Sebastian Winkler, Head of the Countdown 2010 Secretariat of IUCN, who will talk about the integration of biodiversity and climate change policies. There will also be screening of a short film showcasing the issue.
