Winners of game-show “Adaptation to Climate Change” announced at IUCN-Holcim Summer Campaign Closing

On July 30-31, 2011, a game-show with the theme “Adaptation to Climate Change” was organized in Phu My Town in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, two hours south of HCMC, to mark the end of the IUCN-Holcim Summer Campaign 2011. IUCN, Holcim and UNIAD, a Hochiminh city (HCMC) - based entertainment company, organized the games and a television crew from Hau Giang filmed the event.

On July 30, there was a series of competitions between 18 teams from Holcim’s sites including HCMC, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Kien Giang. Three teams made it to the final round, which was held on July 31. The winning teams were:

• 1st prize: Earth Hour, District 2 in HCMC
• 2nd prize: Breaking Ice, Ba Ria District in Ba Ria-Vung Tau
• 3rd prize: Green Ocean, Kien Luong in Kien Giang

The game-show was marked by high levels of energy and enthusiasm. IUCN’s Jake Brunner gave a short talk on what the 2011 campaign had achieved, the winning entry from an essay writing competition (which has been posted in IUCN’s web site), and IUCN’s commitment to supporting Holcim with the 2012 campaign, which will be the fourth in a row. The game-show received considerable newspaper coverage and will be shown on Hau Giang Television on August 28, 2011.

The Summer Campaign is part of a broader cooperation between IUCN and Holcim that includes support to the establishment of two new nature reserves in Kien Giang to offset the impacts of Holcim’s quarrying operations.
