The 67th IUCN Council meeting has admitted 17 new members to the World Conservation Union (IUCN). The new members include the first local government agency to join IUCN and international and national NGOs.

The local government agency that joined IUCN as an Affiliate Member is the “Direction de l’Environnement (Environment Unit) of the Conseil Régional d’Ile de France. This new membership is in line with a resolution from the 3rd IUCN World Conservation Congress that asked for IUCN to obtain members from local government agencies.

The new national and international NGO members, originating from a wide range of regions and backgrounds, include the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) from New Zealand, the Bahrain Women Society and the Fundación para el Desarrollo Integral del Hombre y su Entorno (Foundation for Human Development and Environment) from Guatemala.
