Reuters - IUCN Media Awards 2000 for environmental reporting
One month left to apply.

Gland, 15 June, 2000 (IUCN) - The Reuters IUCN Media Awards for excellence in environmental reporting are approaching the deadline for application, set for 15 July.

The Reuters-IUCN Media Awards are open to journalists in print, television and electronic media (the internet) throughout the world. Entries for the Reuters - IUCN Media Awards 2000 must be published or broadcast between 30 August 1999 and 30 June 2000. Entries must be received by the corresponding IUCN office by 15 July 2000 (see detailed information and entry forms -- English, Spanish, French). Presented jointly by Reuters Foundation and IUCN - The World Conservation Union, the awards were established to:

  • Recognise excellence in professional reporting on environmental and sustainable development issues,
  • Foster a dialogue between journalists and experts to encourage informative reporting based on sound scientific data.

    Nine regional prizes and one global award will be presented by Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan on 9 October 2000 during the World Conservation Congress to be held in Amman. The regional winners are invited to participate in a training workshop organised by Reuters Foundation within the framework of the Amman Congress. The global winner, selected amongst the nine regional winners, is invited to participate in a 3-month fellowship at Oxford University, England.
