The World Conservation Congress - 11 October, 11.30, Circular room, Royal Cultural Centre
His Excellency the Minister of Education to praise young Jordanian artists
Amman, Jordan, October 11, 2000 (IUCN) - His Excellency The Minister of Education, Dr Khalid Tuckan, together with IUCN's Chief Scientist Jeff McNeely, and Raouf Dabbas, President of Friends of Environment (FOE), Jordan, will present the results of the fourth annual children's drawing competition. Over 60 entries from all over Jordan were received in the contest under this year's theme "Ecospace". Unlike previous years when children were drawing on the environment at large, this year young Jordanian artists were invited to follow the World Conservation Congress' theme, Ecospace.
Twenty drawings were shortlisted and submitted to the Master Jury comprising:
- His Excellency The Minister of Education, Dr Khalid Tuckan
- The Director General of IUCN, Maritta Koch-Weser
- IUCN's Chief Scientist Jeff McNeely
- Michael Dagher, Chief Executive Officer of Fast Link
- Raouf Dabbas, President of Friends of Environment Society (FOE), Jordan
The 12 winners will be announced to the press in the presence of the children who participated in the contest. Their artworks will be featured in the 2001 Environmental Calendar, which will be sponsored by Fast Link, the first Mobile phone provider in Jordan.
Environmental education and awareness amongst the youth, as well as the industrial sector of Jordan, has been actively promoted by the Friends of Environment society since 1994.
