The World Conservation Union (IUCN) seeks to appoint a new Director General to lead, manage and inspire the world’s largest environmental network composed of States, Government Agencies and non-governmental organisations – over 1,000 members spread across 140 countries.
Together with its six global Commissions comprising 10,000 volunteer scientists and experts as well as the Secretariat’s 42 Regional and Country Offices, IUCN supports the global conservation and sustainable development community through scientific analysis, policy advice and the implementation of conservation projects and programmes.
As Chief Executive of the World Conservation Union, she/he will:
- be responsible for IUCN’s overall strategy and implementation of the IUCN intersessional Programme approved by its membership
- manage the regionalized and decentralized Secretariat of IUCN with 1,000 staff and a turnover of CHF 100 million per annum
- represent the Union in national and international policy and governance fora related to environment and sustainable development
- play a key role in fundraising for the Union as well as promoting greater investment in the environment more broadly
Attributes:
- possess a track record in the management and governance of complex organizations in a multi-cultural and multi-stakeholder context
- have the analytical, policy and communication skills to articulate and broaden the link between conservation and sustainable development
