Sad loss of Dr. Mohamed Ali Abrougui

It is with great sadness that IUCN has received news of the death on 1 January 2011 of Dr. Mohamed Ali Abrougui, President of the Tunisian Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment, an IUCN Member since 1971, and President of the Tunisia National Committee of IUCN Members since 1999.

Dr. Abrougui significantly contributed to promoting the integrity and diversity of nature in Tunisia and also played an important role at international level, serving on the IUCN Council from 1992 to 2000, assuming the function of Vice-President, contributing to the work of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and collaborating with many international organizations to seek solutions to the most pressing environmental challenges.

It is indeed a personal loss for all who were fortunate enough to know him, but also for the environmental movement in general.
