CoCooN Kenya- Oil, hope and fear

New oil reserves have been confirmed in Lokichan, Turkana, a predorminantly pastoralist area and categorized as poor with the highest poverty proportions in Kenya.

With increasing threats of climate change, cattle-raiding, and agricultural development that are eroding the viability and attraction of the pastoralist livelihood, many in Turkana hope some of their most pressing needs will soon be met. There are also fears by residents of the potential influx of foreigners that could lead to congestion and cultural changes.
