Background information
Event types
There are a variety of ways you can contribute to the thematic streams in the Forum: to share your knowledge, to build understanding and consensus, or to express partners’ commitments to act.
Aliances Workshops – Aliances is the Catalan word for alliances, a common concept among languages and cultures. In Aliances Workshops , organizers are asked to use creative approaches (interactive dialogue techniques, world café processes, simulations and gaming, etc.) and engage participants to share their knowledge and know-how; and to foster understanding and consensus-building on issues. This type of event is ideal for formalizing alliances or partnerships to take concrete actions. Rooms equipped with LCD projectors, microphones and flip charts are available for 75, 150 and 350 people.
Conservation cinema – Here you can show a film, documentary or video clip. Each film will be shown several times. The Conservation Cinema seats 75 people. Technical requirements for formats will be posted later.
Posters – You can share your work through Posters of 1 by 0.5 meters during lunch breaks
Knowledge café – In the Knowledge café you can host a roundtable discussion involving up to 12 people to foster mutual understanding; to explore areas of common interest, network, share experiences, and explore possible partnerships or joint ventures. A Knowledge Café, unlike a Workshop, does not need to achieve consensus on an issue. Up to 20 discussions will be held simultaneously in a large room, without interpretation services or equipment for presentations.
Learning opportunities – Learning opportunities will build participants’ skills in conservation and sustainable development. Participants in these courses will be introduced to, and experiment with, new tools and methodologies. They can involve up to 50 people and last for 0.5 or 1 day. Equipment, interpretation services and refreshments can be obtained through the Congress logistics company; there may be a fee for room usage.
Social events – Plays, musical presentations, traditional dance demonstrations, and receptions are an essential part of networking and communicating. You will take responsibility of the full event, including any stage equipment and set-up (e.g., microphones, speakers, lighting). For Receptions, catering can be arranged.
Press conferences – If you wish to schedule a press conference you should contact press iucn.org. Press conferences will be schedule in the Congress Media Centre for a maximum of 30 minutes.
