Economic Valuation (EV) is a practical tool that can be used within a business approach to ecosystem management. It can be applied in a multitude of different ways but is commonly used to assess potential benefits and costs, and to identify potential stakeholders and threats. Though Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and their members face conflicting pressures, if they do not take steps now to better manage fish stocks, these resources will continue to decline to the detriment of the ocean’s wellbeing, food security and human health.
