Though its global secretariat is based within IUCN Headquarters in Switzerland, the Forest Conservation Programme is actively involved in, and supports, a wide range of field projects and forest policy development work in different locations around the world. It works at the regional, national and local levels in various IUCN operational regions across Asia, Africa, Europe, and North and South America.

Worldwide, Regional Forest Focal Points manage a growing portfolio of field and policy activities. The direct presence of the Forest Conservation Programme in the field helps the programme develop national and local capacity for natural resources conservation and management. In addition, it ensures that its global policy work remains well-grounded in local realities.
